The Latymer School

Enfield's only selective secondary school — entirely unrelated to the independent Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, despite the shared name inviting confusion.

Founded in 1624 from Edward Latymer's charitable bequest, this is the sole state grammar school in the London Borough of Enfield — Enfield Grammar School, despite its name, has been fully comprehensive since 1967. Entirely unrelated to the independent, fee-paying Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith or the independent Godolphin and Latymer School, also in Hammersmith — a genuine naming trap worth flagging clearly. Runs its own two-stage test independently of Barnet's neighbouring three-school grammar consortium, admitting by pure rank order within a defined 'Inner Area' of postcodes rather than a published pass mark. An April 2026 Ofsted inspection under the new report-card framework rated it 'Strong standard' in six of seven categories, but several secondary aggregator sites are still incorrectly reporting a stale 'Good' single-word rating from the superseded 2022 inspection.
